"Silent Facades", Belvedere Siedlung, Berlin
Silent Facades was created during a day spent walking with my camera around Pichelsberg, when I came across the Belvedere housing estate.
The scale of the buildings caught my attention and made me slow down and look more closely.
Small colored details break the strictness of the facades and add moments of life to the repetition.
Along the way, I stopped at a small café located in the heart of the housing estate, frequented only by neighbors, and shared a table with an 87-year-old woman. We talked for about half an hour about everyday matters and life in general. I was positively surprised by the warm, familiar atmosphere and could easily have stayed longer. It reflects a side of Berlin far removed from the increasingly crowded, louder, and more expensive city center shaped by tourism. Here, daily routines, long-term neighbors, and a slower rhythm still define the place.
